The Old Man (1)

Introduction To “The Old Man”

This first series will be about “The Old Man”, and will commence the first week in January, 2021. Who is this old man, and how do we respond to him in our daily lives? Of course, the term “old man” is used generically, and a biblical term that refers to a human being and is […]

THE OLD MAN – PART I (1)

Lesson 1 – Created Man The Bible provides ample information for us to gain an understanding of our own makeup, how the human being is designed to function, and the divine order that has been put in place to govern those functions. Of course, this divine order is not how humans have been functioning for […]

THE OLD MAN PART I – (2)

Lesson 2 – Divine Order In the biblical creation story, there was a close relationship between the Creator and the created, God supplied all of his needs for survival, gave him the job of having dominion, and gave him a partner, Eve. This gives us an idea of the order the Creator had set in […]

THE OLD MAN PART I (3)

Lesson 3 – The Spirit In the last lesson we saw that the human being has been provided with laws that assist in the governing of its operation. These laws have been misplaced for most of man’s history, but before we move on to that story, let’s look at how these laws are meant to […]

THE OLD MAN PART II (1)

Lesson One – The Fallen Human Condition What Happened? We will return to the story of creation for a moment, as it was only a short time after Adam received God’s breath of life that death became a reality. According to Archbishop Ussher 1 of the 17th century the creation of the world is dated […]

Lesson Two – The Fallen Human Condition Man’s Dilemma Sam now finds it difficult to determine God’s will, or even his own spirit’s lead. Confusion has set in and now he relies on his outside world for direction. His soul and body will now influence most of his behavior. The “mistress” has been shunned with […]

Lesson Three – The Flesh “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?” (John 6:60), said His disciples, and many of them walked away as they were offended by what Jesus was telling them. Perhaps it was not that they didn’t understand, but refused to accept the truth of their condition. Our Lord went on […]

THE OLD MAN PART II (4)

Lesson Four – Reformation or Restoration? The Bible teaches clearly that the natural man is a slave to sin. Thus, we as humans have a natural inclination to behave a certain way, and that way leads to death. The question raised in the last lesson is – how do we overcome this condition? Let’s now […]

THE OLD MAN PART III (1)

Lesson One – The Cross We have seen previously that we as human beings have inherited the sin initiated in the Garden of Eden, “just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned,” (Rom. 5:12) and that we are fleshly. Our spirit is […]

THE OLD MAN PART III (2)

Lesson Two – Atonement for The Whole Man Death entered the world through the fall of man; a spiritual death that separates man from his creator. Death is sin’s unchanging nature, and therefore death has permeated the spirit, soul and body of every man ever born. We discussed in the last lesson that sin has […]

Lesson Three – Born Again When a person accepts the Lord as his savior in a sincere act of repentance he is said to be born again. The Gospel of John records Jesus explaining this to Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin. This concept of being born again was confusing to the […]

Lesson Four – The Work of The Cross In the first lesson of this section we spoke about how Christ’s sacrifice being a defining moment when the Father made a way for all mankind to come back into a relationship with him This is an accomplished fact. In the previous lesson we considered Jesus’s “born […]

THE OLD MAN PART IV(1)

Lesson One – The Ecclesia The Cross is laid on every Christian. The first Christ-suffering which every man must experience is the call is to abandon the attachments to the world. It is that dying of the old man which is the result of his encounter with Christ. As we depart on discipleship we surrender […]

Lesson Two – The Visible Community One aspect of the Ecclesia we hardly touched on in the last lesson was visibility. If you consider however that the list of nine items in the last lesson are all about what the body should “look like.” This term in itself is a description of visibility. Let’s once […]

Lesson Three – From Glory to Glory A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35) In the last lesson we discussed the […]

Lesson Four – Wheat and Tares Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the […]

Two Great Men

Who were these men, and what was their message? Four-thousand years separated the utterances of Moses and George Washington who brought to the people the same prophetic message: “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command […]
